Partridge Way

New-build local authority apartments

Scheme
23 residential units

Location
Haringey, London

Pinchin Architects were commissioned by Haringey Council, to design a residential development at Partridge Way consisting of a nine-storey residential tower comprising of twenty-three one and two bed homes. The proposed accommodation provides associated balconies for each of the flats, along with refuse/recycling, and cycle storage.

We have designed this proposal to respond to the surrounding site in a contextual way aimed to complement the local area in several ways. The building form reduces the impact on the neighbouring terraces by chamfering the edges on the Eastern and Southern corners. This reduces the visual impact of the building and overshadowing. We are also proposing new high-quality landscaping and tree planting to enhance the setting of the development and improve the environmental quality and attractiveness of the area including local ecology.

The scheme is designed with a two-storey plinth at a similar height to the neighbouring properties to tie in visually with the adjacent row of terrace houses. The upper floors are designed so that they do not exceed the heights of Newbury and Finsbury House and so do not compete with the existing tower blocks. The proposed scheme has its own distinct character and proportions, and as a medium rise block defines its own scale within the street scene.
